CBoTB- Lone Oak Farm Brewing Part 1

This is the tale of Lone Oak Farm Brewing.  Four men.  Four careers.  One brewery.

Lone Oak Farm Brewing is situated on a 28 acre farm in Olney, marked by a magnificent “lone oak”—a massive 250 year old tree that gives the space its name and a very distinct character.

Lone Oak is owned by Ralph Mollet, his son Ryan Mollet, and by two brothers, Chris and Charlie Miller.  I met with these four founders and talked about their careers and the events that brought them together.

Ralph Mollet has been in construction most of his life, from building and operating two pubs to constructing bakeries and restaurants to the work that has been the hallmark of his career: building spec and custom homes.  All along, there was a real love for great beer, so much so that Ralph became a homebrewer.

And while that brewery never came to be, Ralph and Ryan’s work in construction naturally connected them with Chris Miller.

Working side by side with his dad, Ryan Mollet has been involved with most aspects of their construction business.  When Chris and Charlie Miller approached Ryan and his father Ralph about building a brewery, the fit was right.

Chris and Charlie Miller grew up on a small farm and loved the outdoor lifestyle.  After high school, Chris and Charlie headed to separate colleges and then began their careers.  As time went by, they each realized they wanted to get back to their roots.  Chris Miller picks up the story.

That was late 2019.  With the partnership set and a shared appreciation for the culture of craft breweries, the building of the brewery and taproom got underway.  But Ralph and  Ryan Mollet and Chris and Charlie Miller needed a brewer.  Here’s Charlie Miller.

Next week, Ralph, Ryan, Chris and Charlie fill us in on the taproom, the property and, of course, the beers!  Until then…

Cheers!
