CBoTB: Four Beers in Four Days

Another great weekend is here, and this one’s a little longer!  I know some people think of Labor Day Weekend as the unofficial end of summer, but like a lot of you, I hang on to summer as long as I can.

As you head into this extra-long weekend, here are four beers for you to enjoy, one for each of these four days… starting with tonight.  I’ve chosen four different styles of beers and each beer is from an American craft brewery.

Beer #1, for tonight: Old Pro from Union Craft Brewing, here in Baltimore.  Old Pro is a Gose, a sour wheat beer.  This beer can be easily enjoyed as a session beer both because of its 4.2% ABV and the refreshing mouthfeel when you drink it.  Old Pro Gose is tart, but isn’t “pucker-tart”.  The beer is brewed with salt and coriander, giving the beer an enjoyable citrus quality—I taste a little lemon—and a subtle saltiness.

Beer #2, for tomorrow: Sunshine Pilsner from Troeg’s Brewing Company in Hershey, Pennsylvania.  Troeg’s is a remarkable brewery making one five-star beer after another.  Pouring the beer into a glass displays the rich golden color of Sunshine Pilsner.  Bringing the beer to your nose reveals aromas of straw and herbs.  The taste is smooth, silky, and sweet—and not sugar sweet—beer sweet.  This is an incredible beer.  And if you have a friend who likes beer but has never had a craft beer, this is a perfect introduction to craft beer.

Beer #3, for Sunday: B-More Hazy from Oliver Brewing Company, also here in Baltimore.  Brewer Steve Jones has created a masterpiece with this beer.  It’s a juicy, hazy Double IPA and comes in at 8% ABV.  Brewers often include the word “pillowy” as they describe a beer with this kind of softness, and it’s a good word.  This beer is pillow-soft and is absolutely delicious!

Beer #4, for Monday: It’s the time of the year when Pumpkin Ales and Oktoberfest beers start arriving at liquor stores.  I like Oktoberfest beers and love Pumpkin Ales, so the beer for Monday is a Pumpkin Ale.  There are a ton to choose from, and I always talk about Southern Tier’s Pumking because it’s flat-out my favorite Pumpkin Ale.  So let me recommend a new one that I had for the first time just two weeks ago: Good Gourd from Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, Florida.  This is an outstanding beer!  Goud Gourd is an Imperial Pumpkin Ale with an 8.8% ABV.  It’s brewed with cinnamon, allspice, cloves, nutmeg, and vanilla giving the beer a wonderful pumpkin pie taste.

Enjoy them all!  Four beers in four days!

Have a great and safe Labor Day Weekend!
