- Maryland Presidential Primary postponed until June 2.
- Multiple universities in the University System of Maryland have announced they will cancel classes and/or move to online classes following spring break, Some public schools are also moving teacher development days earlier to prepare teachers for remote teaching. Many events in the area have also been canceled as a precaution. Here are all of the school closing/schedule modifications:
- Bowie State University closed.
- Salisbury University closed.
- University of Maryland, Eastern Shore will switch to online classes until at least April 3rd.
- UMBC is canceling classes all on-campus events until further notice.
- University of Baltimore (UB) is planning to transition to online learning by March 23 and to move classes online for at least two weeks.
- University of Maryland, College Park will have an extended spring break from March 16 to March 27, and switch to online classes until at least April 10.
- McDaniel College will move all classes online beginning March 23 for two weeks.
- Towson University has canceled classes and is preparing to switch to online classes after spring break.
- Harford Community College has canceled classes are closed for spring break and will transition to online classes.
- Howard Community College has canceled classes.
- Loyola University has discontinued face-to-face classes.
- Johns Hopkins University announced that all classes would switch to remote.
- American University says spring break will be extended and are moving all classes online.
- Georgetown University is moving all classes online until further notice.
- Washington, D.C. Public Schools will be closed to allow teachers to prepare to teach remotely.
- Fairfax County Public Schools will be closed to allow teachers to prepare to teach remotely.
- Loudoun County Public Schools closed.
- U.S. Capitol closed to all visitors.

Public access to state buildings is being limited. - Preakness postponed until September.

- Orioles Opening Day Delayed.
- All city-permitted events with more than 50 people are being canceled.
- Live Nation & AEG suspend all artist tours.
- Broadway shuts down.
- The NHL has suspended its season because of the rapid spread of the coronavirus but hopes to resume in the future.
- Big Ten, SEC, AAC, other conferences cancel basketball tournaments because of coronavirus.
- NO FANS ALLOWED| The Players Championship will not have spectators for the final three days at the tournament in Florida
- NBA Washington Wizards games have been postponed for the remainder of the season.
- National Cherry Blossom Festival has canceled some of the events set to take place March 20 – April 12.
- The National Cathedral has canceled all services and tours through March 25.
- Events DC has suspended all operations and services at their venues including the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, the Entertainment and Sports Arena, the DC Armory, and R.I.S.E. Demonstration Center.
- The Four Courts Four Miler event has been canceled.
- The Rock and Roll DC Marathon and Half Marathon and the Scope It Out 5K races have had their permits pulled.
- The B&A Trail Marathon and Half Marathon have been canceled.
- Pearl Jam at Royal Farms Arena on March 28 has been postponed.
- I.M.P. concerts and events held at 9:30 Club, The Anthem, Lincoln Theatre and 9:30 Club Presents at U Street Music Hall have been postponed.
